Welcome back. My friends. Another week, another episode. You know, we're almost at a hundred. Alrighty. This is crazy. Um, This week. I want to talk about. The. Motivational crossroads that we often find ourselves out at different periods in our life. And. I want to, um, talk about. Not letting other people. Define your why. Right. And I'm going to air. The why. Because I feel like. People. Have decided that one. Type of a Y is better than another and that you should, or shouldn't. I have the other. So. Let's get into it. So you know what I'm talking about? And I want to ask you, like, where are you in terms of your success journey? Let's say, um, you know, perhaps you've climbed the corporate ladder or you've built an entrepreneurial business. Um, you've solidified. Your basic needs or you haven't. And it. There's no right or wrong place to be. It's just really understanding where you are and what actually motivates you at different stages of your life. Because I think that we get that confused. And that we. Double down on the wrong. Not wrong. The misaligned motivation for the period that we're actually in and the journey that we're on. And I want to try to clear that up today. And this is going to be a short one. I know I've said that before and they didn't turn out so short, but we are going to get it done right now. So. There's two types of motivation, right? There's extrinsic, which is the external motivation things. Money, cars, houses. Travel private jets. Season tickets. For me, it's choose handbags. Right? And then there's the intrinsic motivation, which is, um, inner fulfillment, uh, service to others. Having a. I hate using the word higher purpose, but higher. Um, Level of impact that you want to make that just a level of impact that you want to make. Is the intrinsic motivation. And depending on where we are in our journey. We go through. Both or we have the ability to go through both and it always begins unless you are some super unicorn. It begins extrinsically motivated because we need to have our basic needs met. And we've talked about this before with Maslow's hierarchy, we need food, shelter, water. Uh, safety, security, all of that. And unless you grew up in a wealthy family. You saw other people have things that you wanted. And there's nothing wrong with that. And a lot of us have. Um, Used extrinsic motivation, external motivation of proving others. Wrong about us as well. And all of that is pine. That is how 99% of us begin our journey. And you can stay there if it's working for you. And that's going to be the whole point of this conversation is. If, whatever motivation you have, it doesn't matter if it's fear, anger or. I want to prove someone wrong or you just love fancy cars or big houses or travel. Or you are on a mission to change the world. Whatever works for you. Use it. And don't let anyone else tell you that you're doing it wrong because if it's working, you're not doing it wrong. Now, some of us get to a point where the extrinsic isn't as enticing as it used to be. It's not as get us out of bed, keep us up at night as it was in the beginning of our journey. And we begin to come to this motivational crossroads that I talk about. And we often don't know. That. It is an actual pivot point in our life. And we think. That, oh, I just need to double down on what I've done before and that will spark my motivation. And it doesn't work. It just makes us more frustrated. Uh, numb to what we're doing. Than understanding. And that's what this is about is understanding that you might need to pivot to a more intrinsic type of motivation in order to fuel. That part of your journey. And we can go back and forth. Like it's not, uh, you, you do this for so long and then you switch to this and that's the end. It's you? Who knows. And you can do both at the same time. Right? I am very intrinsically motivated right now to change. How women lead. But I'm also extrinsically motivated by. Buying a 300 acre ranch here in Texas and turning it into this amazing Airbnb event center. So I have both that I'm that are driving me. It just depends on like what I'm working on at the moment that I'm focused on. I want to tell you how I began to recognize this. I began to recognize it a long time ago, but I didn't understand. And I just made my beliefs wrong because everyone seemed to be saying something different than I was thinking. And it started way back when I was very young. And, um, now I'm very old. But when I was very young and I got into the multilevel marketing, right. That was a big thing back in the eighties and early nineties, it still is a big thing and it works for a lot of people. However, I think where it goes wrong. When someone joins. That environment. Is there told that they have to have this big Y. And they feel like they can't have a lie of, I just want to freaking feed my family. I just want to bring in five, a hundred dollars. That's all I need is money. I need a new car. I have my kids need clothes and shoes. And oftentimes depending on the leader, They are told that's not big enough. That's not going to drive you. Well, I'm here to say, yes, it is big enough. And yes, it will drive you because there is nothing more motivated than beating your fricking children. If you're, especially if you're a mom or a single mom, The breadwinner or whatever it is. There is no other thing more motivating than that. Out there. You don't have to want to save the world. If putting food on the table is a struggle. That's not how this whole process works. And I want that to be very clear. So. I think most of you that are listening to me at this point. How are pretty past the, the extrinsic motivation. Or your extrinsic? Lee motivated things are much bigger. Right? I want to buy an island or like me. I want to buy, you know, 300 acres in central. Texas is not cheap. It's like trying to buy in a fricking. A Yellowstone. Yeah. Blaming right. Right now because of the dang show and all the prices are just ridiculous. Anyway, my point is that. You're probably past the putting food on the table. And if you're not. No shame, like, just do that. But once you hit that intrinsic, right. The. The point of this is for you to know that that's what's happening. And that it's time to shift. What motivates you? And to always keep whatever motivates you. Right in front of you. And you know, most of my work is around. Identity shifts. And in order. To do an identity shift. Like your beginning to self, self source motivation. Right? And. Doing an identity shift of any sort is massive because there's nothing that you're more attached to than who you are. Right because this version of you got you right here where you are. And most of the time, that's a pretty darn good place. And the thought of. Having to let go of part of this or shift part of this. In order to reach the next level. Is daunting. For anyone. And. I think that's where this motivation piece becomes critical because we have to really know. What our north star is what is driving us. When the. Chips. Are down or the it's not even chips are down. It's when the journey gets tough. Because. When you are. No longer external typically motivated by meaning that you have all of your needs being met. It's a much harder. Two. Find drive and grit and fortitude. To do the things that are required for you to go to the next level.'cause now, right when you start out, there's not a lot to lose. But as you grow and develop and mature and accumulate, let's say be it accolades, titles, things, whatever. There's more to loose. And in order for you to. Want to risk that have, have the. The ability and the courage to risk that you have to be motivated by something pretty dang strong. So. The point. Of all of this is let whatever motivates you motivate you. And when something that used to, but no longer does nothing has gone wrong. It just means that you're at a motivational crossroads and you get to grow. And shift with this change. So that's it. I promised it was going to be short. It is, and I will see you next week.
